4 Year Natural Hair UpdateApril 17, 2014
From TWA to Mid-Back (when straightened)... Grow hair, GROW!I'm not really into doing regular length checks but I do try to remember at least once a year... Usually around Easter. After 8 months of transitioning, I did my (forced) big chop May 23, 2010. My hair basically fell out after I removed braids I had in for 4 weeks. I'm assuming my hair wasn't moisturized enough. Although it wasn't my intent at that moment, I wouldn't change nor do I regret my decision to remove the damaged hair.
During my first year and a half natural I wore my hair in it's curly state. As my hair got longer, I began stretching and/or blow drying it. I found that it kept my hair from getting tangled and reduced the split ends and single strand knots I would get.
I am not a fan of protective hairstyles and great manipulation, nor did I buy every product that was on the market. I went back to the basics with products: Pink Lotion, Olive or Coconut Oil, Water, Protein or EcoStyler Gel and Cantu Shea Butter. Shampoo and Conditioner: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. These are pretty much the only products I've consistently used in the last 4 years.
I am not a fan of have only trimmed my hair every 4-6 months, or as needed. I used to color my hair in the beginning but I've given it up because it does take a little more effort to maintain my healthy hair. Since I wasn't willing to put in the time or effort, I've given my hair a break over the past 2 years....
