DIY Vapor Shower Disks

Since the weather wants to be so disrespectful, I need help breathing.

It has predicted that most of the east coast will be hit by this ridiculous cold front that will put everything in it's path below freezing temperatures. Somehow, the cold front has decided to make it's way to Texas and I am not a fan of the foolishness.

Since this cold and flu season has been one of the worst in the last decade, and weather obviously isn't stable, now is the perfect time to reinforce my health with one of my favorite DIY projects, vapor shower disks. I love making them because they're just as effective as Vicks vapor rub but it's made from all natural ingredients. Plus, this is really fun and easy for kids to make by adding a few drops of food coloring (no more than 3 so you don't stain the floor).

Before we get started, I found my Eucalyptus Essential Oil here. Also, I'm using mint instead of peppermint oil because I had a few springs left in the fridge that were going bad and I hate wasting them.

Let's get started!

1 C Baking Soda
1/3 C Water
20 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil
1/2 tsp of finely chopped mint leaves or 10 drops of Peppermint Oil
Muffin Tin
Muffin Liners (silicon or foil work best)

Air Dry:
  1. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl to make a thick paste.
  2. Spoon mixture into lined muffin tin and let dry for 12-24.
  3. Remove the disk from the liner and place on shower floor while bathing for instant relief.

To Bake:
  1. Mix Baking Soda, Mint leaves (if using peppermint oil see step ) and Water into thick paste.
  2. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
  3. Add 4-5 drops of each oil to warm disks.
  4. Remove the disk from the liner and place on shower floor while bathing.
Store in an air tight container (like ziploc bags or mason jars) at room temperature. Leaving them out will cause the disks to loose their effectiveness.

Stay healthy my friend.
