Sunset Mockaritas

Totally safe for work cocktails

Can you believe Cinco de Mayo is a week away? With that in mind, I wanted to create a beautiful virgin margarita that tastes amazing. You can always add tequila, that wasn't enough of a challenge for me, so I began experimenting with Grenadine. If you're not familiar with Grenadine, it's a sweet syrup made from pomegranates. Yum! Since I am very good at grabbing random items out of the fridge and making accidental masterpieces, I thought it would be good to record the process. I'm glad I did, because I when I tried to recreate it without the reference, it didn't work.

Please note, you have to mix the drink in this order if you want the grenadine to sink to the bottom (trust me). Also, if you plan on using crushed ice, put the ice in first so it doesn't disturb the effect and you can substitute the margarita mix with limeade. I just used the margarita mix because we already had it in the house.

INGREDIENTS & DIRECTIONS
  • Seltzer
  • Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix
  • squeeze of lime juice
  • Rose's Grenadine
  • Lemon or lime
  • Sugar

Trace the rim of our glass with a lemon wedge, then dip it in sugar.

Fill your glass half full with Seltzer

Then pour the Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix in the other half  and add 6-8 drops of lime juice (or a squeeze of a fresh lime wedge)

Pour 1 teaspoon of Rose's Grenadine in the mix.

DO NOT SHAKE OR STIR. Simply garnish it with slices of lemon of lime and serve.
